Make Sure You Choose the Best Backpack to Suit Your Trip Needs
by Ric Henderson
When you get into backpacking, the first thing that
you are going to realize is that there is a huge variety of packs to choose from. While everyone has different tastes, the backpacks are more about functionality than
anything else. While you obviously want a pack that you like, you also
need to make sure that it is the right type of pack for the trip that you are taking. It is no surprise that many backpacking enthusiasts actually have several different packs in
their basement.
Because there are so many suppliers, you are
going to find a variety of backpacks at every price point. Whether you surf
the web for the best deal or go to a storefront, you will have more than enough options in what you are looking
for. If you do shop online for a better deal, you may still want to head to
a store that has the same pack to make sure that it fits right and is exactly what you are looking for.
This is going to be your lifeline for the duration of the trip, so shop
wisely.
You will quickly realize that everything starts
with your pack. The size and durability of the pack are going to dictate
how many supplies you can take and what kind of load that you will have to pack. For instance, a heavy backpack with few compartments is not going to be ideal for a mountain
trip that lasts a week. You go with something like that, you are just
asking for trouble.
Now the reason that it is suggested that you
actually try on the pack before you buy it is because comfort needs to be one of your major concerns.
This pack is going to be on your back for days on end and if it starts to rub you
the wrong way or does not sit right, you are going to be in for a miserable trip. Before anything else, make sure the pack fits you comfortably.
For the best results, you would be advised to get
some help from an experienced backpacker or an educated sales person. Try
to find someone that has been on the trails and knows exactly how to fit you for a pack. The pack should sit perfectly on your back and line up properly with your shoulders and
torso. If it doesn’t, just move onto the next pack. This is actually why it is better to do the shopping with someone else. Sometimes you can fall in love with something because of the way it looks and convince
yourself that it fits okay. Consider the second person to be your
conscience.
Before you set out on your backpacking trip, your
pack needs to be perfect. It has to fit properly and be able to handle the
load that you are going to have to carry for the next few days. Without the
right pack, you are asking to have a miserable time. The problem is that
once you start out on your trip, you are stuck with the pack so get it right and take the time to make sure that
you get the perfect backpack for both your body and the trip.
